Constance Louisa Maynard was born in 1849 and died in 1935. She was a student at Girton College 1872-1875 who subsequently helped Miss Louisa Lumsden start St Leonard's School, St Andrews, 1877-1880. She spent two years at the Slade School of Art. Largely through her energy and determination, Westfield College, London was opened in 1882 where she was Mistress from 1882 to 1913. The Print collection was acquired by Westfield College Library during the early 1970s, as teaching resources primarily for the History of Art Department. Part of the collection was catalogued by a group of postgraduates under the supervision of the Deputy Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum. Constance Lousia Maynard was born on 9 February 1849 in Middlesex, one of four daughters and two sons of Henry Maynard (1880-1888) South African merchant, and his wife Louisa Maynard née Hillyard (1806-1878). She grew up in Hawkhurst, Kent, in the house of Oakfield. She was educated at home, before studying for one year at Belstead School in Suffolk.
